Supervisory responsibility for:  Faculty-wide team in the absence of the Director and other direct reports

Heads of department, students, support staff for research, finance and business partnerships, all staff engaged in business partnerships activity, staff in other faculties


Senior staff in UK research councils, universities, European Commission, government departments and research organisations, regional development partners, Lancashire Enterprise Partnerships, companies and other organisations relevant to science and technology.

 Major Duties:

 The role will be to provide support to the Director and lead its own portfolio of activity. This portfolio will focus on the strategic development of one or more of the following 3 strategic areas of planned development :

  • Technology-based start-up company incubation.
  • Provision of learning opportunities via work-based placement, company-led project or internship to a majority of Science & Technology undergraduates.
  • High value research-led relationships via the co-location of companies into office and laboratory facilities in Science & Technology.
  • The Deputy Director will also work to support the Director in:
  • Leading a strategy and its implementation for business engagement across the faculty
  • Working with Heads of Departments and Centre Directors to develop activity
  • Working with Directors of externally funded units to ensure that all targets are met
  • Running the faculty-wide team and develop faculty wide roles within it
  • Plan for faculty HEIF funding
  • Relationship management of funders in the region, wider UK and overseas
  • Maintaining faculty relationships with business and industry, from large corporates to SMEs
  • Understanding external priorities, funding mechanisms and constraints
  • Deputising for the Director in their absence
  • Other duties as directed commensurate with the grading of the role.
